There's something women like about a pickup man

My boys are flirts, it's true, but Harry upped his game over the weekend. We were at one of our favorite restaurants, where the children of the owner often visit with us and share some of the waitressing chores. The 10-year-old lovely gets this line from Harry: "I'm gonna grow up to be a man and you'll grow up to be a lady" with these big flirty eyes and right up in her grill. His dad egged him on a bit, and he ended up asking her to go out with him ::-) My days are limited :sigh:

Here he is just after winking at the photographer during our recent photo session - sheesh! Our first trip to the beach when they were about 15 months was the first sign of his serious flirt with older ladies - anyone with white hair received major eyelash flutters. He used to really gravitate toward any lady in the room who seemed to be a wallflower, you know the type who might not typically get attention - he always zeroed in on them while Jack went for the more obvious. I guess a 10-year-old isn't exactly ancient, but he has always had a thing for the older lady!

They are both brushing up on their manly manners, and Jack was overheard in the bathroom tonite telling me that I should go first "because I know ladies always go first"....the woman beside us started chuckling and would probably have gone on a date with him, if he'd asked ;-)

Happy New Year to you all! I think I'm going to have to stop December with 50 posts - egad!

Resolution of Happiness - Spin Cycle & Tricky Tuesday

Jen's Spin Cycle challenge for the week is to share your resolutions with the blogosphere. This is a tough one for me because I typically follow JB's approach in Trip Around The Sun (Jimmy Buffett):Yes, I'll make a resolution(Martina McBride):That I'll never make another one. I make little goals about once a week, sometimes once a day, and only occasionally meet them.

I like the idea of a resolution of happiness, and found these fun articles today. I'm killing two birds with one stone, which makes me happy, so there you go...already on the way 2 whole days early - yay me!

Everclear's Don't Change

ETA: I hit publish before thinking that it's only Monday. sheesh! An update on our behavior paper chain - they liked it enough to start another one for January. I have no scientific evidence that it worked, but I do know what Jack said this morning: "I want to wear this shirt, but if I let Harry wear it because he wants to, will I earn another link?" Woohoo!

I Get Lost Sometimes

I am possibly the world's worst navigator, so my sweet husband bought me a bangin' new Garmin that we're all having fun playing with....I just found out that it will help me find my car in when I lose it in the parking lot. My life stress level has dropped amazingly - thank you, dear!

So, what sort of gifts did you get? Hope it was a treatful time for all :-)

Mr. Mister

ETA: It's HASAY Monday and I'm typing this from the Y - yay for me! I am still not committed to posting all the stats and stuff, but I *am* trying :-)

Only 364 Days To Go

The countdown begins

Brad Paisley did one of my favorite Christmas albums last year, besides an awesome version of a song he wrote when he was 13 (old recording fades into current, gives me chills) and a few funnies, he wrote this song:

'Cause don't you get the sense tonight
That for now the world is right
And as another Christmas ends
My mind drifts and once again
I'm thinking like a six year old
Only 364 days to go
We can't avoid it
No way around it
Before too long we'll be
Either back to work back to school
Or just back to reality
Hope your reality is a good one and the rest of 2008 treats us all well!

Why Can't Every Day Be Like Christmas

Miracles do happen, as evidenced by the green numbers you see - woohoo! After 7am is unheard of these days, especially when they are so excited, but rest was needed....4 hours is plenty, right??
Here is the damage from the camera incident...ouch!
Waiting for Daddy to go see if there were any visitors
One of the two things Jack asked Santa to bring was this Lightning computer

Harry starts the big dig thru his Santa bag
They got a lot of retro toys this year, and stockings full of all sorts of treasures

....including their version of Sid's microphone

with which Harry interviewed Daddy
and answered questions and sang songs
There were a few boxing matches
One of the two things Harry asked Santa for was an astonaut with a helmet
(the flag was a bonus!)
They are investigating the evidence of the reindeer enjoying the snacks they left
Opening some of their gifts to each other
One of the best things about the day for me was the joy they took in giving gifts - Jack was thrilled to give us our gifts (including self-written labels)
and he got a few hugs in return
I loved this picture of Harry opening his Lincoln Logs (thanx cousin Emily!)
And this one seemed fairly magical to me
Jack scored big time...
as did Harry
They got cameras, so the lens is on the other face....rutroh! payback?
Jack and Daddy taking a moment to read some directions and snuggle
Harry spent Christmas dinner sacked out in Daddy's chair :-(
Dean's brother Les joined us for the day, and it was really wonderful to relax, cook a nice meal and enjoy it with all the boys!
Jack ordering up his day-after breakfast on the awesome griddle from Grandma and Papa S -thanx, it will be put to great use!
Thanx to everyone who helped make this 'the best Christmas EVER!' We enjoyed all the gifts and all the phone calls.
Hope your holidays were merry and bright!

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

Christmas Eve was a big day at our house - lots of final prep, lots of relaxing and cooking and being together, which is always nice. Unfortunately, Harry was still feeling under the weather and had a fever that would just not leave him alone. He ended up possibly scarred for life, but more on that later.

Jack started the day helping me set up my beloved Gramma's nativity scene. I haven't put it out the last few years but found a mat and patched a few places and took a few moments to recall what a treat it was to help her and play with the pieces, then wiped away a few tears as my own sweet Jack did the same. He's a much better story-teller than I, so when Harry's feeling better they can take turns with this one in years to come!
Did I mention that we are doing our best to stimulate the economy? Gluttons, I say, gluttons! But happy and loved ones, to be sure
Jack was so excited to help Daddy make a yummy breakfast - he did the eggs from start to almost finish this time....gonna make a great husband some day!

Harry spent a lot of time snuggled on the couch, here he is watching a slideshow of pix and telling me the stories to go along with them

Dean made sweet heart pancakes that we DElicious!
Jack was so excited to help make the cookies this year - he's cleaning the rolling pin and saying "I've never washed the roller all by myself!" Hopefully this joy continues ;-)

Rollin', rollin', rollin'
A more joyful and helpful boy I don't think I could find

Does that watched-pot theory apply to cookies rising?

Here he is decorating his special cookie for Santa - it's a tree farm and turned out pretty good, or so the big guy said!

Harry cowboyed up for a decorating session - had to make his special cookie for Santa! Here Harry is trying to put on a happy face, what a trooper!
(About this same time, I found a puddle of thawed ice pops in our freezer and the broken-fridge fiasco began - some sort of miracle took place this morning, and it's re-freezing things - yay for us!)

Dean hooked us up with Norad, and it was a lot of fun to track the progress
Harry rallied a bit in time for helping Jack set out reindeer treats they made at school

Jack is very excited, still
I remember that happy Harry face, and this may be one of the last times you'll ever see it unmarred, more later.Jack posing with his favorite sleepmates
Reading The Night Before Christmas

and having a last family snuggle before bed (does it look like Harry doesn't think this is such a great idea?)

Turns out he was right, as Dean and I were holding the camera and both thought the other had it after a few shots....crash! Right into poor Harry's cheek. Not as if a cold, cough, fever were enough, now the poor kid's bleeding from his cheek :-( What a trooper, he cried for a short while then toughed it out while I cleaned and bandaged him. It's not pretty but the doc saw him today for other stuff and said it looks like it might heal without serious scarring. Poor dude.

Santa was good at our house - hope he treated you well, too!

Out jumps good old Santa Claus

I'm a pretty big Santa fan, and I have tried to tame it down a bit in the last few years, but something about that face....

I got this picture after seeing in on the back of the LLBean catalog many years ago. He reminded me of my Uncle Larry
These guys are finally filled with cookies

Puzzles + Santa = Christmas bliss

A couple of Possible Dreams Santas and a globe. My mom bought me the computer one the year I met Dean <3

This guy spreads a lot of joy, even when the mistletoe's fake ;-)

Our mantle, with a few of the Santa figures that have lasted thru the years, the boys' Santa pix and another puzzle (I have visions of creating a collage of all the Santa cards I've gotten over the years, but this one will have to do until I get organized)

The boys picked these Santa bears this Christmas

Dean's mother painted this sweet slate and gave it to me after I ooogled - thanx, he's well-loved!
