Word Up!

Did I mention I love sleep, especially theirs! Restorative powers, and all that - sign me up if today is any indication of how amazing a few good hours of shut eye can be.

This afternoon, they decided to play school again, and somehow Jack's morphed into "Ho, ho, ho, I'm a Santa here to bring you all these things."

Harry just enjoyed the chance to pack his lunchbox with the goodies from their cash register and run around with the backpack and lunchbox.
And they kept it up tonite before bed. I think these may be the first real words they've written completely on their own (insert big smiley proud mommy face)
I was writing words for them to read then they asked if they could write their favorite words, and here's what they did:
Jack started with the S-H then went back to put the W-I in for 'wish'

Harry's been wild about 'to' in all its forms - he loves finding it on signs and in other words (he also found 'cat' in a bug catcher that we bought them Saturday, so maybe he has a future in word games?). This really fits his personality, he always wants to know where we are going!

At the risk of jinxing it, last nite's goodnite has turned into today's goodday! The boys slept until 7:50 and I actually had to wake Jack up to get out the door, which is unheard of regardless of what time they go to bed.

My getting up before them also seems to help ;-)

Talking to them about the kind of day we were going to have, repeating why things that happened yesterday wouldn't happen today, and starting it all with a lot of hugs and laughs, and catching this old KC and the Sunshine Band song on the muzak at the store started it all off well.

We saw Mr. Bean again, and it was fun to see what they remembered and watch them laugh at his complete silliness. A mommy friend had a birthday today, so we went to a different section of a park we rarely visit and had a nice little play and cupcake time. Jack, of the balloon curse, lost his balloon at the park but got himself together pretty quickly. Thanx to everyone for a good time!

A big bath, and now a wonderful nap is taking place as I type :-) Dean is on his way home, and the sun is shining. My days don't get much better than this, truth be told.

Unreal Reality

Wow, today definitely qualifies for a Calgon moment - yikes, I realized how lucky we've been with behavior (in the grand scheme of things) today when the childcare person seemed to still be in shock when telling me about some misbehavior. I'm still struggling to deal with the big and little misbehavior today brought, and hoping tomorrow is better.

Now, would you know it by looking at these pix of tonite's 'bed book' time?

The boys bought these books for me for Mother's Day. They sort of 'go with' other books they've had a long time - Where's Spot? was a favorite from the beginning, and they've loved Daddy Kisses (different author, I think) forever. It's cool that they can actually read most of each of them on their own now, but still want me to snuggle them up and read about all the sweet mommy moments. :wubwub:

Now, things seem a bit more in perspective. I'm sending out good thoughts to others struggling with behavior problems and hoping tomorrow is a better day all the way around.

Sharing The Night Together

It was kid's day at our local farmer's market - they got to dress up like firemen again, put out a few fires, and practice milking a cow ;-) We also got to enjoy lunch with their friend Zach and his mom at the new pizza place we found. The day was gorgeous and we are still enjoying top-down days!

T-ball is officially over and over ...sniff, sniff. They really seemed to like it a lot, and the whole team made big improvements from that first practice! Here are a few shots from the game Thursday nite and the after-party at a really great pizza joint that had a huge game room full of all sorts of fun games and toys (and the pizza was good too).

Luck Of The Draw

These silly boys finally got (almost) into the frame of one of these little sketch booths after the movies this morning. It's been a nice day, and we're hoping yours goes well, too :-)

So, it's really not the best song title for this, but I recall this movie/song from a limited childhood filled with nothing but Elvis movies and albums LOL

The boys helped me make the cupcakes for their t-ball party tomorrow - not to worry, there was a lot of hand-washing ;-)

They really did a great job, and Harry even complimented my spoon control: "great drip catch, Mommy!" The ladle worked really well, btw

And here they are setting up for an impromptu concert - Harry loves that new Rascal Flatts song Everyday (we really ARE working on his limited musical taste). I got an adorable video of them belting it out that I'll post when we're somewhere with hispeed, but this picture shows them prepping their microphones (shakers from VBS)

Have I mentioned that Harry loves to run? I think that's his favorite part of t-ball so far!

And here's an action shot of Jack - they call t-ball 'a dirty game' and you can see why when you look at the bottom of his cleat!And of course there's a lot of waiting - here Harry is doing some stretches while he waits his turn to run for 3rd. Do you remember being that flexible?!

Tomorrow nite is their final game, a make-up for one rained-out game (hard to believe they only missed one). I'll be June Cleavering it with cupcakes LOL and they'll have a pizza party, trophies and cupcakes after the game. It's been a pretty good start for sports, and they seem to like it better than soccer (better equipment!).
