The science nite was a big hit! They got back about 8, so Colleen I didn't get quite two hours ;-) They were so full of exciting news and stories, that now I can't wait to see what the school cooks up for Mother's Nite in the spring!
As often happens after an information-filled event, Jack woke up crying in the middle of the nite. His imagination is so vivid that he really 'lives' and 'relives' whatever he's learned as he processes it all. Dean and I both had to talk to him for a while about all the weather and electricity information he'd heard. No, tornados won't bend and come into our house. Yes, Mommy and Daddy will protect you and our house will, too. Yes, we also know how to protect everyone if a hurricane comes. I'm not sure about all the intricacies of weather or electricity, so thankfully Dean was able to take over and talk about the things they'd learned, the questions it brought up for Jack, and soothe him back to sleep.

Oh, yes, it's DADDIES' night
Tonite is Father's Night at the boys' preschool - here Dean and Jack are tormenting Harry, who is "ready to GO!"
It's a nite for scientists, including guest speakers: a weather man and an electricity man, per Jack. They were about to bust to tell daddy about the surprises they made for him and the fun experiments awaiting him. I can't wait to hear all about it!

I've been a slacker about Jen's Spin Cycle lately and really don't know how to respond to this week's topic: Songs! I mean, my whole site is about songs, many of which I don't really love, but the words fit our lives at any given moment. I can't decide on a favorite, a life anthem, or much of anything else in my post-stomach-icky haze, so I'm just going to tell you that music makes me really happy.
The first song I ever bought was the Doobie Brothers' Black Water - I was about 6 and missed all the nuance, but hey, it had a grooving beat ;-) I loved Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog as much as Jack currently loves John Mayer's version of Route 66. Every moment of my life has had some sort of soundtrack, and listening to music can take me back there in a nanosecond.
I want to have the Vaughn Brothers' Tick Tock and Jimmy Buffett's Defying Gravity played at whatever sort of goodbye service I have (yeah, I have a problem with control to think about this, I guess!). The Indigo Girls' Up On The Watershed is my mental KITA song. My all-time favorites are Willie Nelson, Jimmy Buffett, Lyle Lovett, James Taylor and most recently Brad Paisley. I've been lucky enough to see them all a few times, with the exception of BP.
I listen to music to suit my mood, to get me into another mood, to make myself, my love, my kids happy, because I can't figure out the words on my own, and because it's there. I love all sorts of music, which is probably why, along with having limited mental capacity, I can't figure out how to spin this one.

Homework, I want to do homework
School's been a lot of fun and some good work, too. Before I realized today was a snowday, they did their "o" homework and were pretty proud of the results.
Here's Jack, who decided he wanted to do the opposites list after he finished drawing his obstacle course (left). You can see a fair amount of it if you click on the picture, tho I could never do it justice if I tried to describe it all. He did a pretty good trophy and flag for the winner's circle. The picture on the right is mostly a smile and a frown, and a lite and dark color. His smile says it all, and he still tells me daily "I love to learn new things at school!"

Remember he loves the Garmin, so at the top L-light and D-dark garmin (complete with cord, blue car and purple route), the hot/cold, happy/sad and up/down as seen on elevator buttons

Today was the boys' first snow day, so we had a chance to go to the P&R 'red gym' - they've started a couple of new Wednesday activities: Crazy Cupcakes and healthy snacks, which alternate. Guess what today was?

Yes, those are a lot of candles, and yes, my husband loves me enough to focus on the good stuff like the presents and cards and balloons and cake (sans candles). We had a great day, but I do feel a bit like Arthur watching the sky to see if it will actually snow, since no one is allowed to complain about it if it happens on my actual birthday ;-)
My two tiniest lovies with treats (you can't see the beautiful roses, but they smell divine). And a little 'you're welcome' in advance to their future girlfriends - Dean has taught them well!
Well-rested but still a little groggy at 10am...what a slacker!
Cards galore, notice the boys did theirs all themselves!
They got me a Santa ornament that lites up and talks, and the newest Brad Paisley CD; very thoughtful gifts, indeed!
