In the twinkling of an eye

All it took was a beatiful Fall afternoon and an offer of a Scouts' Bike Rodeo to get Harry to finally ride his bike. He was really determined, and quickly realized his skateboard balancing could come in pretty handy on two wheels! It was a day for meeting challenges - Jack took on this stick and clearly was the victor! Way to tough it out, little man!
A stop at the lake was definitely worth the ride, look at that sunset! "Explosions" are our favorites My phone camera couldn't do justice to this huge flock of Canadian geese (according to my wildlife enthusiasts) It was a sweet ride home with my two sonshines!

'Cause we'll never be the way we were

The boys have been wrapping all sorts of activities up, the school year is winding down, and the memories are sweet these days....

apparently, Harry has inherited the green thumb - their cub scout group started these potatoes growing about 2 months ago....I kept holding out hopes that Jack's would start to flower, but so far no luck.

Homework is a lot more fun with two!

Jack's soccer team - this is his best year so far (despite the 1970's basketball-style shorts)

You better not let 'EM in.....aaahoooo!

The boys officially became wolves last week. They had a fun year as Tigers, but looked so proud to get their new yellow neckerchiefs!

They got to make smores afterward. Their friend Zach (background) will be a Tiger this fall - welcome to the wild-er-ness!

Come on, take down your fishin' pole, and meet me at The Fishin' Hole

The boys' scout den got together for a little fishing on our neighborhood lake this afternoon - couldn't have asked for better weather or make biting....just missed Daddy something fierce!

Jack, Joe, Harry, and Grayson checking out their chances

Jack has mastered the chill of fishing

Harry got a little help from a friend's mom

He caught a little beauty

Fishing and a cookout - pretty great afternoon in the country :-)

You're playin' with your food

The boys' scout group worked on the food pyramid, and we did an experiment with foods - the kids smeared samples of all sorts of things to see which had the highest fat content (glowing after dry)...the only real surprise is how neat they actually were with it all ;-)

There are no fish left in the streams

The boys finally had their uniforms ready for tonite's Minnow Races. They were a little bit excited, starting with Harry modeling his duds.
They have been practicing their salute, motto, handshake and other scouting tricks for their first badges

We grabbed a pizza and met another cub and his family. Harry had a great time working on his latest PuzzleMania
After a brief awards ceremony to pass out summer and initial fall awards, the boys got down to racing their fish. Harry and his old bud, David, both had fast fish!
Jack won a few and lost a few. His attempt to bend his straw to box the minnow in didn't work very well, but he had a great time, anyway.
He also tried approaching it from high but could not make that fish GO
They got to bring them home, and we'll see how long they survive
Harry telling his Daddy all about the nite's adventures :-)

I'm glad I am a camper, there's nothing I'd rather be

The boys are officially Tiger Cubs and went to their first day camp last week...it was HOThotHOT! The local fire department was kind enough to douse everyone after lunch

and the boys had a great time - some highlights: buddying up with older friends (thanx, Joey and Ivan!), shooting bb's for the first time, a bit of archery, fishing, some carpentry (and Harry clamp antics), and a few experiences that helped them learned about how people with disabilities cope with challenges.

I missed the money shots of the boys being welcomed into the pack, but here the three Tigers are learning to how to find their shooting eye...pretty cute, huh? I especially like the shadow

And just when I'm about to forget what they were like as babies, I find this. They were in the opposite positions in utero, but this is how they liked to be in the world - Harry ready to roll and Jack streched out. Of course, the Red Ryders are a new addition ;-)
They are excited to start the souting adventure!
There's Nothing I'd Rather Be from Scout Songs

7/1/10 Harry: Mommy, when we are grown up, will you have another job? Jack: When we are all the way grown up, her job will be to be a grandmother and ours will be to work, but our best job will be to be dads!
