We're adventuring!

Jen at Sprite's Keeper assigned Adventure as this week's Spin Cycle - check out the other adventurers!

Since I have the word in my blog title, I was going to do a thorough job of researching it, but then I got distracted at the end of the 'adventure' entry in dictionary.com and wanted to share it with all you wordies:
The Visual Thesaurus - it's totally cool but has a fee after an initial trial

...and this is how many of my pursuits turn into adventures - a little bit of distractibility, a little bit of intrigue, a lot of superficiality, and a desire to share it all.

Of all the definitions I saw, I like "what must happen" best, with the exception of this Sesame Street song:

An adventure is something we promise is going to excite you(Hahh-ah-ah-ah-ahh)
An adventure is something as thrilling as it can be(Hahh-ah-ah-hah-ah-ah-ahhh)
Adventures make wonderful stories and so we invite you, yeah(Hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hooooooh)
To hear about something that happened to my friends and me.(Hah-ah-ah-ah-ah. Hah-ah-ah-ah-ahhhhhhhh. Oh!)

Then there's this Ella Fitzgerald love song:

Time and again I've longed for adventure,
Something to make my heart beat the faster.
What did I long for? I never really knew.
Finding your love I've found my adventure,
Touching your hand, my heart beats the faster,
All that I want in all of this world is you.
You are the promised kiss of springtime
That makes the lonely winter seem long.
You are the breathless hush of evening
That trembles on the brink of a lovely song.
You are the angel glow that lights a star,
The dearest things I know are what you are.
Some day my happy arms will hold you,
And some day I'll know that moment divine,
When all the things you are, are mine!

And how about the Violent Femmes:
Life is an adventure, made for an adventurer.Made just for the boy who can, grow up strong and become a man. Nothing will bother you,you will do what you want to.Laughes and loves and hopes and dreams, action will supply the means.

All the references I've found relate to the homo issues surrounding poor B&E, but I still like the song despite all the controversy: Sesame Street - Bert and Ernie's Great Adventure
