Games People Play

What's a vacation without a lot of games??

They loved these inflatable Curious George chairs - what a great find! They packed small but were big hits. Harry enjoying the Leap Pad while they both goof around with their pirate necklaces

Aunt Jackie joined us for the first weekend, and since she and I really enjoy jigsaw puzzles, the coffee table was designated Puzzle Table. We worked two while she was there, and I did 3 more after she left (blush)

AJ always spoils them with games and fun - they loved the Hungry Hungry Hippos travel game

Of course, Howard's tends to be Game Central and they enjoyed foosball, video games, and the ring toss.

I didn't get a picture of it, but Harry won a toy in the claw! If you're not familiar with that, it's pretty tough....Dean is an expert, so I guess Harry is just following in his footsteps.

full of curves, lessons learned at every bend

A few of the lessons we learned yesterday:

H: Today we learned about pencils
J: (too many things to type)
Me: you can really zip thru the grocery alone, but it sure isn't as fun ;-)

Hearing another mom singing to her two cuties was a little reminder of how lucky I am; AND she knew the rest of a song I've always sung to them ....I only got thru the first verse and instead of 'standing outside' we always sang "I'd stand outside with my mouth open wide"

Groovy Tuesday

I don't know if you can ever really thank people for certain gifts, but I'd like to thank my wonderful and supportive husband for this amazing gift of hearts and time. If I wanted to 'work,' I'm sure he'd support that, too, but days like these remind my how lucky I am to be momming these two little guys.

Yesterday in preschool, they did this story you may remember from camp or preschool or whereever:

'We're going on a bear hunt, We're gonna catch a big one, What a beautiful day, We're not scared!! Oh No!! A forest, A deep dark forest, We can't go over it, We can't go under it, Oh no! We'll have to go through it! Stumble trip, stumble trip....'

Well, Jack was a little scared for some reason and mentioned it a few times. He woke up crying and talking about being brave, then he says "I didn't like it. I hope SAM liked it." It doesn't translate as well in type, but he was thinking about his sweet friend Sam and hoping that he liked the story, even if it was a little scary to Jack.

Today at the store, I finally broke down and bought them these Eric Carle bears, and they commensed to giving them big squeeze hugs :wub:

Then we went to a kids' activity at the mall. A pizza restaurant gave the kids books and pizza boxes to draw their own creations.....

Jack takes art VERY seriously....

while Harry's just there for the pizza (cheese up, dude!)

Later, we stopped by the fish pond so Harry The Fish Whisperer could work his magic

Jack seemed to attract a few of them despite his serious pose

and the nice ladies at the shoe store gave them balloons that brings me to this last picture of childhood bliss - enjoy your days, and thank you, Dean, for giving me these wonderful times <3

Science Fiction, Double Feature

Between preschool and a new show to our area, Sid The Science Kid, it's pretty exploratory at our house these days. A mom friend at preschool was just talking about how her son is also playing with all sorts of older toys in new ways, and it's happening here all the time, too. They've been a lot more into designing with their trains lately, creating more imaginative scenarios with their animals and pirates, etc. It's pretty fun!

I found them both digging into their bug kits this morning (a combination of gifts from Sam, Aunt Jackie, and possibly Amberger?)

stop trying to make impressions - Spin Cycle 3

We went to watch what Hanna might do to our beloved Ocracoke Island, and I thought the wind-ravaged sand looked pretty cool - you can just make out a bit of tire track in the top left...

but then I thought this picture was too cool to leave out

I was going to try to write something amazing, but I'll leave that to the wordsmiths.

They both really seemed to enjoy it so much - if they did half the things I've heard about, why am I so tired?! It was a great day, and I feel quite proud of this first big leg of the parenting journey :-)

Send them home, it's closin' time

We had a wonderful week, and it's good and sad to be home. Hanna did little more than cause most of the island to close along with a series of power outages - hardly enough to make us feel like sturdy islanders...bummer.

Tomorrow's the big First Day of Preschool, so we've repacked backpacks and snack packs, and I haven't shed a tear (yet!)
